COE FARM

modern living for three generations: a sustainable, contemporary extension for a norfolk family home

A professional couple purchased a post-war, farm workers' house which required substantial extension to create a new, modern, contemporary home for three generations of the family.

Our involvement included planning, building regulations and project management of the construction of the building. This scheme was a combination of householder planning, notification and permitted development.

It was very important for the clients that we investigated and utilised sustainable technology within the design, including, passive solar gain, thermal mass, passive ventilation techniques, solar voltaic and solar thermal and biomass heating systems.

Regularly working from home and with extended family, it was important that the design allowed segregation and privacy where required. However, the main focus of the internal layout was for a large open space combining lounge, kitchen and dining.
