Stocks Hill Barn – New Build

While this scheme is technically a conversion it was deemed unworthy under planning, but through carful negotiation and design work it was possible to pass it as a new build change of use. Building work is to commence in 2018.

The scheme brings a disused agricultural building back into use as a family home in close proximity to the local village services and Norwich City.   The single storey barn is primary a concrete portal frame with infill blockwork and a pitched asbestos-clad roof. There are existing windows and door openings and the barn has a solid concrete slab/foundations. The barn adjoins a redbrick single storey barn and lean to.  The barn would be repaired and upgraded to an energy efficient and habitable standard. The barn would provide a dwelling in a residential location close to local services. The conversion would add to the character of the area and tidy the appearance of the site for the other residents close by. The barn is designed using traditional Norfolk materials in a contemporary style utilising the existing layout and floor structure to provide a comfortable 2 bedroom dwelling. The design incorporates an existing walled courtyard and raised garden. In order to maximise these external features and the views of the surrounding landscape, the living, dining and bedrooms have a raised floor level. Every effort has been made to utilise existing window and door openings, however, the design does include several new openings include skylights in the roof.
